As the title says, each time I transfer songs to my mobile phone via windows media player the program insists on transferring songs the phone has into my HDD when I don't want it to. In addition removing the files from my HDD will make the next sync do the same for my mobile phone (which is even more annoying). I know a 1-way sync is possible but I don't have a clue on how to set it up properly.

Well you can stop the automatic synchronization by right clicking the device in Windows Mdia Player in the left hand side "panel" and selecting one of the two options "Advances settings/set up synchronisation".
(Translated those entries - check your Media Player for similar meaning)

That should stop it from messing it up automatically :)

I do not have that problem on my Sony Walkman... interestingly enough... I just drag and drop my stuff then click synch :)

I'm interested in your setup since the phone in question is a W910i and I'm not keen on using my dwindling HDD space to install their proprietary music management software. I've unselected previously copied from device but for some reason the option keeps reselecting itself...

Well, al I did with my Sony X1060 is plug it into my laptop and then manually drag and drop the files I wanted to have on it.
It works perfectly on just Media Player.

Maybe you could try deleting your phone's paring with the Media Player and then reconnect it? It would detect it again.
Then just manually drag and drop?

I'm really thick here, when you say manual drag and drop do you mean transferring files directly via media player to the sync list? Or is it something else?

Yes :) have chose the synch tab and you'll have a "bar" at the right hand side in Media Player that you can drag and drop media files into.

I'll try that the next time I'm transferring files, thanks for the help.
