Hi!
this only started today, but when i try and open an mp3 file windows media player stops working after 5-10 seconds. Most of the time task manager doesn't recognise it as not responding, but WerFault.exe opens and seemingly does nothing, yet makes the cpu usage shoot up to about 50%. The other times it says no solution and just closes. iTunes works fine with the same mp3 files. I have tried it with nothing connected to the pc because i saw some people had crashing when usb devices were connected, but it still doesn't work. I am not sure what to do now... If anyone has any ideas that would be great.
Thanks

Do you have any plugins enabled? Those could easily cause the program to crash. What operating system are you using?
-
wow is that you? ur very attractive
and i'll put my tongue back in...
i got no plugins enabled and vista 32bit -
Yes, it's me, though I might need to remove the pic if threads go OT too much.
Um, I would try running it in safe mode, and see what happens then. Maybe another program is messing it up. Sounds lame, I know....but you could also try uninstalling WMP and reinstalling, that works sometimes. Good luck! -
how would i go about uninstalling it on vista though... theres no uninstall cos they made it part of the os did they not...? would i have to go through and delete everything then try and find all the files to reinstall...?
-
No, there is no way to do this. Windows Media Player is an integrated part
of Windows Vista, and thus in order to accomplish your goal you would likely
need to reinstall Vista.
You could potentially run something like this from an administrative command
prompt:
===
for %a in (%systemroot%\system32\wm*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %a
===
, but that probably wouldn't fix any externally source corruptions, and most
sources of corruptions/problems in WMP come from external issues, not from
anything that the voodoo of a reinstall would fix. =\
*I took this from a website I found Googling your problem* -
Probably under turn on/off windows components in the same section.

I also found this registry fix:
http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/methods-to-uninstall-windows-media-player/
Might be able to get this to work, just be careful when messing with the registry. -
