Bad times caused by the evil empire. I recently attempted what I thought was a simple system restore. MS took over would not allow me to continue until I reregistered with my 25 digit number, than made me go to an operator in India. Made me use my recovery disk. When the 2 hr. ordeal was over found that I had a sizing (text sizes had to be adjusted from site to site)problem and a color contrast problem on certain texts. System restore was made inoperable before that date so I could not go back.

Any similar experiences or opinions?

Sounds like your PC is due for a format. One of the reasons I switched to Mac.
What for problems are you having? Chances are it's some some unchecked box somewhere that needs to be checked or something.

Is the graphics set up properly? Maybe you have got the wrong resolution or colour depth. Check for the latest driver for your GPU.

The two issues are; 1-sizing, It does not adjust automaticly. New egg site for instance is too large to be read. Yahoo is very large, has to be sat at smallest and some sites like this set at medium. The other problem is a few sites have some of their text missing or in light yellow. Do not think it needs a reformat. But maybe a driver download. How do I go about that?

I have been using system restore routinely many times. Something happened to kick-off redlights at MS. Almost like getting a traffic ticket.

Sounds like an IE file might have been corrupted.

You could install IE7. You might be able to download IE6 from another site (like FileHippo), not sure though.

Unfortunatley, IE doesn't have a "repair" feature that other MS products have.

Or you can download Firefox or Safari for Windows and use one of them instead.

There are a few places I can download from. It is legit I have the CD from new. I just want a repair of the corrupted files. The older version was so easy to work with. No I do not want any part of IE7. What a buggy mess that is. If I download the IE6 will it just do a repair or will it be a complete reformat with everything lost? Also checking, the size problem may relate to a page zooming control. Is that an easy fix?

i would try to repair/reinstall ie6 and see it out without installing any extra options/utitilties such as toolbar .... btw, ie7 has page zooming control incorporated into the package. For increasing/decreasing the font on the page, one can just use ctrl-arrowup (or down) or ctrl-mouse scroll up or down.

    cheers ...

I don't see why you need to format your computer... if only the rendering of the web is problem... see if your internet option advance setting is changed... cause sometimes this happen... you can choose to set it to default again... :)

    extra/tool > internet options > advance settings > default > OK.

Same thing happened to me before, where some site with bigger font, some is just too small... :)

Do not quite know how it worked. But I followed the instructions on the link, ran the IE6 program and the problems seem fixed flawlessly. Strange that their were no notifications that anything was done. Must have simply installed and corrected the corruptions.
