    Hello

I am one of the many that have the Acer Aspire 5315-2153. My hard drive crashed on it and i replaced it. I went to go reinstall with my ACER CD's but i found out they got broke by one of my kids.

So i did some research and came across the post about how to install XP on this laptop. I procedded to do so with great success. I have an old DELL DIMENSION 4600 and i used that disc to do my XP install.

The problem i am having is that i used the Product Key on my dell for the acer and it tells me it isn't a VALID product key. What can i do about this? Is there any way around it?

I like having XP on this as it runs much faster but if i have to i suppose i'll spend the $30 on the replacement XP discs.

Can i get around the product validation problem??

. Why did you not use the Acer COA key at validation? Was it because it is for Vista?

. If you do have the official licence on the Acer, call up Microsoft support and they will walk you through as how to activate it.

    cheers ...

The Dell desktop has an OEM copy of Windows that cannot be transferred and that is why it isn't valid. There is no legal way around this problem, other than buying the Acer backup discs or purchasing a retail copy of Windows.
