i got my laptop yesterday, a dell vostro 1500 with windows vista business my main issue at the moment is the blasted sidebar. when i started the computer up the sidebar was all really nice and well, there was a slideshow, weather tool and rss feed which i had great customisation over. all of it was a nice size for the resolution of my screen. but now that i have taken a few programs off (wern't wanted) the sidebar has somehow gone funny on me. i can't expand it, change the slideshow images to landscape and so forth.

any advice on what to do?

Right click on the swirling "Google Desktop" like icon in the system tray by the clock, go to properties or settings or preferences or whatever it is that's listed (I uninstalled the task bar the first minute my new 1721 arrived, so forgive me if my memory seems a little rusty...) and uncheck the box that asks you if you want the sidebar to start at Windows startup.

Then, reboot Windows and MANUALLY launch the sidebar from the start menu.

I had the same thing happen to me when I tried installing a bunch of third-party gadgets to the sidebar, and this fixed the problem.

You could also try selling it or sending it back and get something other than a Dell?
