Gday when i start up windows sometimes it starts up msn and damen tools and steam and it puts the icon in the system taskbar, sometimes some of the startup programs start up and dont appear in the task bar eg msn the window comes up but theres no icon in the system bar same with deamon tools and sometimes rockstar social club if i click the x on msn the window goes away so i have to goto msn icon and open it again then it appears in the system icon, unless i start them manualy anyideas ive checked in msconfig and there all checked to start when w7 starts!

Click the down arrow in your system tray. Then click "Customize...". Find the tray icons you want to always appear in your tray under "Behaviors," and select "Show icon and notifications." That should allow you to choose to always display MSN and Daemon Tools in your system tray.

I've personally noticed that XP would loose icons... sound mainly - it needs to be removed from the System tray and added again - never looked for a fix...
Never happened in Vista. -

Strange indeed - Vista works - couldn't see why Win7 should be broken again.. -
yep ive got it set to SHOW ALL ICONS all the time as well weird in the mean time waiting for a fix ive turned off steam msn damontools so they dont start when windows starts, its werid there showing in the task manager as well that they are on but no icon unless i double click on the msn icon.

When I have seen this happen in the past, it was caused by a boot conflict. It was caused by some program needing to start or be already running before another. Norton was one of these programs that had this kind of problem.
Do you have anyway to delay the problem program from starting, such as ASUS Fastboot?
On WinXP I wrote a small batch file that delayed several programs from starting on a reboot, this allowed all the others to completely start. A shortcut to the batch file was place in the Startup directory making it available every time I needed to reboot the computer.
Could this be the problem you're experiencing?
