With a few exceptions, I install all recommended Windows updates to my Vista OS. I am having difficulty with one update:

Ricoh Company driver update for Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller

When I try to install it, I receive the following message:

!You need to provide administrator permission

To complete this task, you need to log on as an administrator or ask an administrator to complete the task for you.

I am the only user of my PC and I have a user account on the Vista OS, which requires a password to initiate any boot-up and restart. No other user accounts are present. If I need to demonstrate my administrator privileges to validate the update, how do I go about it? I explored control panel for administrator accounts or privileges, but to no avail. Admittedly this update is optional, so I can probably forego it, but this situation may arise again with more essential updates.

Thanks for reading and any suggestions and information.

Have you tried right clicking on the install package and select "Run As Administrator" to gain administrator privileges? I'm pretty sure Vista has the Administrator account hidden on the system be default, you can try this guide to enable/disable the appearance of the Administrator account.

first you’ll need to open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator” <----here:
from the [start]-->program-->accessory-->command prompt, then u open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking :)
