Hi All.
My dad started installing updates on his laptop, but decided he couldn't wait for them to install. So, he power the machine down, mid update. After I managed to get it to boot into Windows, I found the only programs that didn't work were Microsoft Security Essentials and Internet Explorer 8. Apparently, those two were being updating when he suddenly powered it off. I managed to MSE working, but IE8 won't open at all. I think it was being updated to IE9 when the power was cut.
I went into installed updates, and the IE9 update is installed. But, if you look at the picture I attached, the IE8 icon is still on the task bar. When I tried to uninstall the IE9 update, it fails(see attached picture).
Is there anything else I can do? My dad hates IE9, so restoring IE8 would be best. But, if all else fails, IE9 will do.

I would try going here Internet Explorer downloads - Microsoft Windows and DL IE9 and IE8, then install 9, Once you get 9 working run the installer for 8 and it should roll back. Gotta keep dad happy!

I downloaded and tried to install IE9, and it starts to install, but then closes without an error code.
I'll try running the IE8 installer tomorrow. He's running Windows 7 Pro X64(Vostro 3750).
I greatly appreciate your help
