I recently updated Windows 7, 64-bit home premium and after logging in, I noticed a strange folder in my D drive that had a bunch of letters and numbers. I opened the folder and it had different subfolders, and some images of different skins for something like "Microsoft.net framework."

I closed "My Computer" and when I went back to the D drive, the folder disappeared. Anyone alse experience this?

Most likely this was a result of an update of the .net framework which often times triggers an automatic recompilation of libraries on your machine. I had such an update come through earlier this week and noticed the the framework was compiling libraries in the background. I didn't happen to see the directory structure you mention, but think it is plausible what you saw was the temporary work area the framework used.

What Gary said. Microsoft recently posted another patch for .NET 3.5 and Framework 4 (optional).

Do you have Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender enabled? If so, when either program runs an update, it backs up it's database and current settings for a period of time to ensure that the update works properly.
