Hi Guys,
Ok, so here is the deal. My new Lenovo R61 arrived today and after completing all the set up, I decided to turn it off. The system said that I should choose the 'update and then turn off' option. I did that and it said 'installing 1 of 65 updates'. It is now 'installing 7 of 65 updates' but that is what it has been saying for the last 30 minutes. Is this normal? I am scared to do anything. Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks
CJ

Update...it is still saying the same thing/..' installing 7 of 65 updates'.
Is this normal? Should I do something? -
yes just wait it out.. could take up to 3 hours
-
Hi Flipfire..thanks a lot! I was starting to freak out a little thinking that there was a problem. It was reassuring to get your post. Any other views on this issue?

Do you happen to have an Anti Virus program running? If so turn it off. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to install a single update.

Is your HDD light turning on?
Does it sound like your CPU is in load? -
Hi Flipfire, it does not sound like the CPU is in load. Infact the computer is not even hot or anything. This may sound like a dumb question..but what and where is the HDD light?
Rodknee..how am I supposed to turn of the antivirus program if all it is saying is 'installing updates please do not turn off or unplug your computer?' -
So, what do you think Flipfire? It is still saying 'Installing 7 of 65 updates'
It does not seem to be doing much of anything else. -
If it is still doing it, and you just got your new R61, do a reformat.

Try waiting it off for aslong as you can. If nothing else changes, then do a hard boot. Hold the power button till it shuts off, then try starting again.
I suggest you just download the standalone Service pack 1, which will include all those updates into 1 pack. -
Microsoft's update servers can suck hard at times. I have 20MB Broadband, and have seen updates that should take me 10 seconds, take 10 minutes.

Any updates? Is it still saying the same thing, or have you given up on it by now? Let us know.
Windows update time normal?
