Well Business gets rid of some (personal opinion) "junk" like the Windows Media Player and games aren't pre isntalled.

The connectivity "stuff" may come in handy if you use your laptop at different places and at work.

I'd always go with a "professional edition" - but that's also me and the image I want to send out...
(By the way - I wouldn't swap my Vista Business for Ultimate)

And you're not at university by any chance?

Sometimes that "recoommendation" varies depending on the sections of each vendor's website. For the most part, they recommend the version of windows aimed at the same market segment as the laptop series they make.

On the Dell.com site, for example, switching to the business section shows this sentence on the upper left "Dell recommends Windows Vista Business" while choosing the home section, shows this sentence "Dell recommends Windows Vista Home Premium"

What are you using it for? They are each "best" in their own ways. Depends on what you are using it for.

Actually, Windows Media Player is preinstalled on Vista Business. (And it's not junk either... but I guess that's my personal opinion.)

The games are not preinstalled though... if you want them, you can install them through the Control Panel... Add/Remove Windows features or something like that.

    Ups - sorry.
I didn't mean the Media Player - you're right than can be useful.

But I call the Media Centre (!) junk. (my opinion)

The version with the features you want is the best version. Home Premium has features that consumers are supposed to want like Media Center ie: toys. Business has more practical stuff like previous version restore and encryption etc etc.

On a laptop I agree Media Center is junk. Never understood why it has been a major pusher by OEMs since Windows XP Media Center Edition...

I love Media Center, but that is only on my desktop where I have a TV Tuner card (which makes Media Center worthwhile)...
