I am in process of buying my new laptop.
Should I configure it with Windows Vista Home Edition 32bit or 64bit.
Or Should I configure it with Windows Vista Ultimate Edition 32bit or 63bit.

Can anyone point out what differences would be b/w them
I would be using my laptop for some programming softwares.. etc

If you are a home user go for Home Premium - but coolguy gave you some links.

About 64Bit - see my sig for a long post on it.

Unless you need the Business features like domains ;)

But for Home Users Home Premium is the better offer.

64Bit can be problematic with periphals.

Lol you have more fun on your pc with home premium and ultimate but not business umm

Well I say 64bit for sure and well I use vista business and the nicest feature it has over home I think is the complete pc backup program. But if you don't need any of the extra features, get home premium.

Get, HomePremium. It does not have many un-neseccery proseces(es). Highly recommended to get 64-Bit, if you have more then 3GB Ram...

Actually 64Bit is only highly reommended above 4GB - that is even in a Technet video.
At 4GB of RAM people tend to argue to and fro - and you will not get the full benefit of 64Bit.

How much RAM are you planning on getting? And also, will you be needing to connect to a domain?

He won't be able to use 4GB ram if he has 32-Bit.
Whith SP1 (32-Bit) shows 4GB at proberties, but if you look at Task managar it dosn't use 4GB. Only about 3.5GB. So in my view, if you have more then 3GB Ram go for 64-Bit.
I use 64-Bit (HomePremium) on my HP (T7250 @ 2.00GHz, 3GB Ram) it handle it very good.

Don't forget, some hardware can address RAM and 64Bit OSes use more RAM than a 32Bit version.

For the price difference, you can get Acronis Disk Director and still save money (usually based on cost between them).
