Does this method of disabling telemetry works or I need to use the exhaustive list you have provided?

If you haven't yet, don't install KB 2919355 that's what allows the Windows 10 upgrade. That KB is deceptively placed in the important patches group, just below all the security patches.
Rule of thumb for me is that I only install security patches for Windows 8.1 and I leave the rest alone. -
They'll never give up. I mean the retards at Redmond HQ

Windows 7: Security-only update KB4516033 from Sep. 10 2019 again with telemetry
Published on 12 September 2019 by Günter Born
[Deutsch] Microsoft released a security-only update on September 10, 2019. The security-only update comes once again with telemetry on board. Here is a gleaning what is known so far.

Just a remark, w 8.1, oct 3 KB4524156 security rollup, am seeing compattelrunner.exe reenabled (task scheduler > application experience), transfering data \ telemetry. May apply to w10 & w7 kb's as well.

That's system app which checks for application compatibility after each update and notifies the user if there's an recommended update say if Chrome version is too old etc etc..6730b likes this.

^^^ yes. legitimate, but not legitimate to reenable anything I explicitely choose to block, without warning. Am not allowing anything or anyone do do anything involving the network \ internet unless I explicitely allow it \ initiated it :O)
Attachment, my laptop(s) after boot (and long time idling), zero connections behind my back.Attached Files:

Although I am sure you are fine, note that it's possible to mask process / system table entries such that nothing shows up while there are things going on - always use external monitoring systems to watch for traffic on the wire/wireless and using multiple monitors of different types between internal networks and the outside world is also a good idea.

Canadian Tech: How to rebuild a Win7 system with minimal snooping
Posted on November 17th, 2019 at 09:31 woody
For those of you who need (or want) to rebuild a Win7 system, but don’t want to get stuck with all of the “telemetry,” Canadian Tech has a detailed checklist that covers what you need and what you don’t. I’d appreciate your comments.
Remember that we don’t know what data Microsoft scarfs with its telemetry updates. I have a sneaky suspicion that it’s not very different from the telemetry in Win10. -
Windows 7 to Show Full-Screen Windows 10 Upgrade Alerts bleepingcomputer.com | Dec 11, 2019
![[IMG]](images/storyImages/end-of-support-ad.jpg)
When Windows 7 reaches end of support, the operating system will display a full screen warning stating that Windows is more vulnerable to viruses and that you should upgrade to Windows 10.
If you want stop this annoying madness... Fix here.
Therefore, users who never want to see the alert nagging can configure the following registry key before January 15th, 2020.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\EOSNotify]
"DiscontinueEOS"=dword:00000001

Almost everyone on the internet reacting to Win 7 EOL:
"Oh no! Without Windows updates my PC will be unsafe.

Me (and most of the posters in this thread) reacting to Win 7 EOL:
"Yes! Without Windows updates my PC will be safe (from Redmond).

Funny thing is, Microsoft never had to resort to this kind of crap in the past. I never had any nag screens or pop ups when I was running Windows 2000, or XP. Why? Because most of the time there was a product worthy of upgrading to.

For those who are still hanging on (and with good cause):
It appears that the Windows 7 ESU Bypass is indeed working.

https://news.softpedia.com/news/hac...g-updates-despite-end-of-support-529186.shtml
As they suggest a backup is created of important data, better the entire system, before the bypass or any of the updates that Microsoft released for Windows 7 are installed. If something goes wrong, it is then possible to go back to the previous version without losing any data.
Unfortunately I cannot try this myself as I recently installed Windows 8.1. With a few "Look like Windows 7" tweaks and the removal of metro, personally my oldie but goodie Skylake flies along seamlessly.Last edited: Feb 13, 2020Vasudev, inm8#2, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
I've found these in a list of telemetry updates to avoid, but I don't see them on the list here, so I'm wondering, are they telemetry or not?

I threw together a subreddit on Reddit for NBR refugees as a stop gap until a successor forum is stood up.

Feel free to spread the word and share the subreddit, so we can ensure as many get the word when a new forum is up and running. Thanks!
