Is windows xp sp2 security update a resource hog? Everything I start my computer, the security update icon pops up and lock down the system? Has anyone experienced this type of slow down before?

Do you mean the little yellow shield icon? Click the windows button + break button simultaneously to get into system properties. Go to Auto Updates and click Notify only or Off.

I don't notice much of a slow down. Only sometimes when it's installing updates.
