Hey everyone, I'm planning on updating windows 8 to 8.1 sometime this week, in the event that some things do not work out and glitches shows up, can I go back to windows 8 after it's already been updated to 8.1 via system restore? Say I make a custom system restore before updating to 8.1, will that work and bring me back originally to windows 8 again?

    Thanks

Hmm, not entirely sure. First, ask yourself if you really need to upgrade from 8 to 8.1. Will be using any features offered in it? I installed 8.1 the day it came out and it was horrible. Drivers, software, display scaling all went crazy. Tried again last month and then this month, same effect. Sometimes drivers aren't updated for newer versions or software doesn't 100% work. If something isn't compatible with 8.1 for some reason then you would have to do a full restore ie C drive gets partially wiped and you have to install your programs and stuff back and files as well need to be backed up prior. My experience with it so far :)

I'd use the built in tools to grab an image of your computer: Here's how

Of course, Micro decided to completely change this up for Windows 8.1 so those directions don't work. You should be able to go back to your image using THIS.

If all else fails, you'll have a good image of your current setup, you can reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 8 and then restore the image.
