I have to compress a lot of files, including documents, music, and programs. I have Winrar but have a few questions about it.

    1. Does it use lossless compression?

    2. How does the recovery thing work? Everything will be in one large archive. Will it help?

    3. Is there a difference in extracting times when using best or fastest compression? Obviously, the fastest setting will compress the files faster, but will it also decompress them faster?

    1.Yes
2.If the archive gets corrupt it can try to use the recovery information to recover the corrupt data.
    3.Don't think so

What exactly is on the recovery information? I think the default setting is 1% of the archive, so what are the actual chances of recovering a corrupt file?
