What is a desktop program or browser addon that lets you download a file wirelessly directly onto your phone itself so you can access it on your phone without internet later?

Is there an easier way to do what I want?

    I've tried
    - putting in dropbox. But then when I try to open it on my phone I realize that the file is not on my phone itself
    - copying and pasting files into android phone when it is plugged in. But I am looking for something to streamline the process so I can avoid the process of

Basically I want to put some content on my phone while I browse on my laptop to consume later when commuting without internet. Without all the copying and pasting

Bluetooth. Setup your phone to push files to your phone over bluetooth. Then all's you need to do it right-click, select Send To, then Bluetooth.

    Bluetooth is ungodly slow.

Airdroid looks pretty cool, I'll have to check it out!

that being said, ES file manager has a one click instant on FTP server, which you could use to send files to your device. (maybe using FireFTP for firefox).

True. But its very secure and fairly easy to setup on a modern smartphone + Windows 7.

BitTorrent Sync works wonderfully to mirror files between your PC(s) and Android phones/tablets. I use it to keep my music in sync between my two laptops and my phone.

Someone should make a service where you easily connect using bluetooth, but the files are actually transferred via wifi. oops, did I just say Airdrop? :p

    That is pretty cool.

I do it the other way. ES File manager connects to windows network shares, so I'll just download whatever I want from my computer.
