Ok I am using the machine in my sig below. But I have uninstalled vista,
and installed with with win XP pro. However, I have always been using
word 2003. But my word has been opening documents slowly lately.
At first, my word 2003 opened documents quickly, but now it opens them slowly.
However, if I just open word 2003, it starts up quickly, but its when i double
click on a file, it takes me like 2-3 seconds to open the file, instead of
"instantly" like before. I beleive that this started to happen ever since
I installed adobe acrobat reader pro with pdf maker. I noticed that it added
a plugin into my word 2003, with a few toolbars. I think this is whats causing
the problem. If true, how do i get rid of the plugin? I have gone to tools>templates, and i saw the plugin and removed it, but it reappears and comes back every time i open up word. What gives?

Is 2-3 secs really that significant? Adobe does latch on with Word so it can convert documents to pdf on the fly. And by doing this it actually saves time if you want that document emailed right away in pdf format.

uninstall anything and everything related to the adobe software. it's as bad as realplayer and quicktime.
get foxit reader.
if you need to create pdfs, then either live with the delay or find another pdf-creating-solution -
I want to keep the adobe acrobat, i would rather just convert the
files to pdf from the actual program is i means i can open my files
quickly. The reason i want to open word docs quickly, is because
it would be embarrassing if someone tryed to open a word doc on my
comp and accuse my computer of being "slow" when its not!
i just want to rid of the plugin. -

Umm how about you uninstall PDF Maker from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel?

Use OpenOffice instead? As far as I know, that can create PDF's without any problems or slowdowns.

i already have openoffice, and yes it is fast, unlike word2003

look for pdfmaker.dot, and remove it from being in the startup folders for Office. I'm not 100% sure if version 8 still uses this exact same filename but 7 and 6 do for sure.
