Hello all,
I was writing a term paper in Word 2007 last night--when Windows Update installed some new updates on my Vista Business 64 bit system. I have a Dell Vostro 1400.
Problem
This error only occurs in Word 2007--none of the other Office programs have been influenced.
I have weird errors such as this:
![]()
This error occurs any time that I try to open a file without first having Word 2007 open. In other words, if I already have Word open and I use its open command to navigate and find the file--then I don't have a problem. Likewise, I cannot open files off of the Recent Items section of the Start Menu.
A second error I've noticed is this:
![]()
I cannot print out of Word at all--which is rather frustrating
Actions I've Taken
1. I've tried sfc /scannow
http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum/windows-xp/16339-windows-cannot-find-c-blah-blah.html
2. I've tried to edit the registry
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;940791
3. I've repaired and reinstalled Office Ultimate 3 or 4 times now...
Any help that you could give would be appreciated. I hate Windows Update.
I hope y'all are having a great pre-Holiday season!
Thanks,
NJ

System Restore?
-
Tried that too--sorry I forgot to list it!
-
Please list the updates you installed. Also, if you turn off UAC, does the problem stop?
-
My UAC is off--I can't upload the picture with all the updates until I have 15 posts--so I sent it to you via a message. I'll upload it when I meet the 'quota.'
Meanwhile, here is the link...in the only format that I could paste it...

Thanks! -
The most immediate (and easiest) solution is to uninstall the updates...
-
Bog--Thanks for the reply--I uninstalled the updated that were related to Word 2007...and that still didn't fix the problem. There were a couple of Updates related to Office 2007 as a whole that I couldn't uninstall.
This problem is a real headache--and perfectly timed because I'm going into finals week.... ;((((( -
Do you have antivirus installed? If so, have you tried disabling the automatic scanning of Word documents?
My gut feeling is this problem is a Vista Explorer problem and not really a Word problem. -
Do you have any Word/Office plug-ins installed?
-
I use Avira for antivirus software--and I currently have Comodo Firewall Pro has a firewall program. Currently, the settings for Avira do not appear to be scanning Word documents. I have tried disabling Comodo to see if it will fix the problem--but to no avail.
-
The only plug-ins that I have installed are related to Excel--which is working fine.
-
What happens if you boot up in safe mode?
-
-
Bog - this problem as been around for over a year, but it seems to affect only a small amount of people. Reinstalling Office 2007 hasn't worked for the OP (and none of the other threads I've read, unfortunately).
-
I just tried Safe Mode--and I was able to open files without the first error message occurring.
This may be related to being in Safe Mode--but I received the second error message when I tried to print. Safe mode doesn't load the printer drivers--does it?
Oh--and in response to the post by Bog--I tried exactly what you mentioned. First I tried to do a System Restore--that didn't work. Next, I uninstalled the updates that I could uninstall--and then I reinstalled Office...and I was still having problems. -
Based on everything I've read about both issues, I think this is a Vista x64 bug, which suddenly reared its ugly head. I'm not convinced any of the updates you installed caused the problem. Unfortunately, I don't have any good suggestions. You can try to remove the Excel add-ins, uninstall your 3rd party antivirus/firewall applications, uninstall all of the December 9 updates, and finally restore to a point about two weeks ago.
Before you try all of that - install CCleaner and let it find and repair all registry errors, and also let it clean up your drive. Reboot, and see what happens. If nothing changed, try each of my guesses listed above, making sure to reboot after each step, then run CCleaner, then reboot again.
I wish I had a better course of action to recommend, but I'm stumped (along with the majority of people that either have this problem or have tried to fix it). -
download openoffice in the mean time to finish ur project.

The good news is that I run XP Pro in VirtualBox...I'll just use office via that message--but OpenOffice is a good suggestion too.
Everyone--thanks for all your help!
