It's especially slow when I'm opening a .doc from a website or something, that wasn't made for 2007. Most of time it just takes like 10 seconds to start up and 15 to start typing. When its a .doc it takes like a full minute to start typing.

I have a 2.0 dual core and 2gb of ram

I agree, Microsoft needs to make their mainstream software faster...are you sure your computer is set to maximum performance?

It's a network printer isn't it? I noticed the same problem on mine when I used that configuration. Now, I just set my default printer the the XPS printer and manually choose the correct printer when I want to print something

Interesting, I'm using Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz, and it runs as fast as 2003. My only complaint is that some of the options only appear when WORD thinks you need it... that's really annoying.

Yes hehe you are totally right. The network printer is very slow, the printer I made up makes it run super fast. Any ways to fix this dumb network printer issue.

I don't have any problem. On the other hand, I don't have a network printer installed.

I have an HP printer hooked up, and I'm not experiencing any problems. Word 2007 opens in about 2 seconds. I have a T7300 2Gz, 3GB RAM, 8600M GT.. if it helps.

I know the issue you are talking about.

About 20% of the time when I connect to my office network, something goes wrong. I can tell because office apps take about 5 extra seconds to load and when I go to print something, word will crash. I can still see my network files, but when i press ctrl+p, it's over. The only solution so far is a reboot, I'm not really sure why it happens.

Welcome to Windows. Enjoy your stay ;) Leave it at the "made up" printer, and just switch to the network one when you need to. The problem is that Word ties it's layout to the Printer. Completely stupid design decision that they're now stuck with keeping and pushing on the customer.

Yes, set the default printer to a locally installed printer (like Microsoft XPS Document Writer) and select the proper printer only at the time of printing.

Word is slow to start, print, or load documents

I have Office 2007 on Vista Home Premium. Vista was connected to a networked printer through an XP machine, and print spooling was painfully slowww on the Vista machine only when using Office 2007. The Print spooler worked great for all non-Office applications. I was happy that the solution was so easy: Remove the printer. Add the printer. Don't connect to it as a network printer; but rather as a local port pointed to the network printer.

This is the solution that worked for me:
(I basically used the XP solution described in the link on the Vista machine)

    Hope it Helps

An interesting observation... Not many tried to solve your problem.. gosh this forums credibility is going down!

Firstly have u installed Office 2007 Service pack?

It will make Word open in 5 seconds..
I have a weaker system than yours & mine opens faster.

And and and .. Office 2007 is the fastest on VISTA btw..
    Unless its XP SP3

Other than that..FYI .. .doc opens slightly slower than .docx

Ive had no problems with slowness either on my current laptop or my lower spec D620 at work. Office 2007 has been opening just as fast as as any other version of office has in the past.....
