I've got the same version of Word 2010 installed on four computers - an XP desktop (work), my Win 7 HP Envy 14, my Win 8 Pro desktop, and most recently my Win 8.1 Yoga 2 Pro. The following issue only occurs on the Yoga 2 Pro, and has done so ever since I installed Office on it a couple weeks ago.

I create a lot of documents from templates of my own, and I do so by double-clicking the template file, which then opens an unnamed document based on the template, which I then start filling out and/or modifying as necessary for the given document. This has always worked just fine without any headaches on the other three computers. Now, however, every time I save one of these documents on the Yoga, I get a dialogue popup from Word asking "Do you also want to save changes to the document template?"

It's maddening not only because it adds another step to the process of saving my documents, which I do regularly, but also because one of these days I'm going to accidentally hit enter or click "yes" and then I'm going to have to manually undo all the changes to restore the template to its original form.

Considering that this only occurs on one of four machines, there's got to be a way to turn it off. Anyone know how to do so?

You tried the old keister method? (Change the properties on your template file to read only?) :D

Good idea, but no luck. It turns out, when I say "yes" to the prompt, it opens up Word's "save document" dialogue, meaning there's another step to actually save the changes to the template. That means I can almost certainly avoid accidentally altering the template, but I still have to deal with the stupid "do you want to save the template" popups.

That's what you get with dealing with Office on a Windows h8 machine. :D

It's not OS-linked. A better search - the first time I searched I didn't type the message exactly so I didn't get many good results - dredged up a solution. I had to dig into Word's internals a little and turn off the "Send to Bluetooth" add-on. Lord only knows why a borderline-useless add-on that's installed with the office suite would cause such an issue, but that's what happened. I probably never ran into the issue before because Bluetooth is always disabled on my Envy 14 and the two desktops don't have it at all.

This is Microsoft. Everything is connected to everything else no matter what the relationship.

God forbid they ever manufacture a car. Turning on the windshield wipers would rev the engine to full throttle; or unbuckling your seat belt would disengage the parking brake.
