Sorry if this question is not permited on this Forum. Delete the message if necessary.

I am wondering if there is a working console emulator for Vista. Emulator such as SNES, Genesis, NES, and maybe PS1. Will any rom work for them or do I need a vista optimized version?

Again, delete this message if it a violation to the TOS (which I cannot seen to locate).

Why not give a shot? They're usually small enough to download and to quickly test.

The only one I know of is Kawask or something like that, it plays good old classic games like Neo-Geo, Saturn, etc... STREET FIGHTER!!! :D

I have tried zsnes and fusion (genesis) but they cannot be open completely without shutting down by itself. They work with XP but not Vista.

Vista kinda frowns upon emulators...MS even considered banning virtualization software altogether. What you can do is use Microsoft Virtual PC to run XP within Vista and install your emulator inside of that XP install. The older consoles should emulate just fine, but anything new may play sluggishly.

^^ What?? That's a mental method man :) Emulating XP - isn't there a thing in Vista to emulate things for XP apps? Like back in XP where you can set it to mimic 98 and stuff to make it compatible with older programs?

Now thats just more fud. I've got emulators and homebrew games working before. It depends on which ones you try.

My advice, try all of them. When they say compatible with windows, they sometimes mean less then Xp.

The problem with them not working is, even though they say they are Windows compatible, they are actually just a dos shell.

There are very few current emulators that actually work. A program must be fully Xp compatible to work in Vista.

I don't fully remember which ones I got working. All I know is, my fav zsnes, didn't...

I got my current emulator to work. Fusion was already compatible, I guess I did not check. ZSNES either need to have administrator's privilage or check off the run in compatibility mode (XP) through good old right-clicked property.

Just like retailed PC games, fusion lose some frame when using genesis rom but ZSNES work fine. I guess gaming on Vista is a no-no :D.

I've been using Virtualboy advanced for GBA emulation without using compbility mode and it's worked flawlessly.

I'm running epsxe, a playstion emulator, on vista with minimal problems. There were some issue with the aspi layer (vista doesn't have one) but i got it to run. It runs great on my dv9500t, but epsxe isn't perfect, and not all my titles work.

I'm having major problems with zsnes on vista home basic, whenever i start it up it drains all my memory and when i go in and out of it in windowed mode i get stopped for about 5-10 seconds. I tried running it with XP Compatibility but still have the same problem. Anyone else having this issue?
