Hi, I'm having problems with my alienware 17 r2 regarding bios and dell tech support decided to change my motherboard. My alienware 17 r2 originally came with windows 8.1 but I upgraded it to windows 10. My question is would it be possible to get windows 8.1 again using the new motherboard they will provide? I have a windows 8.1 usb stick that came with the laptop. If I reformat may hard drive and install windows 8.1 then I'll get the new motherboard would my windows 8.1 get activated? Is there a way to go back to windows 8.1 with the new motherboard? Thanks..

edit: bloody wrong title.. I meant replacing Motherboard would affect windows 10 licence? sorry for bad English LOL..

The windows license for 8.1 is tied to your motherboard, so the installation of windows 8.1 should be good. Try a clean Win 8.1 installation and see how it goes. Maybe you is lucky to get rid of Win Crap X :D

That is exactly the plan.. seems windows 10 is just causing too much problem. Is there a way to keep the windows 10 licence from my old motherboard incase windows 10 will improve after a year or so..

I don't know. Maybe make a backup of your Win X. And there is still a way to install Win X on your new <machine>. Then activate. Thereafter go back to your older Windows. Google it. Maybe places like http://www.ghacks.net or similar websites have tips/tricks for you.
