I know it might seem crazy, but I'd like to switch the default "yellow" (left) choice on the "Turn off computer" menu in XP from Standby to Hibernate. You see, I almost always hibernate since it doesn't use any power in case I decide to move my laptop all of a sudden, and it's quicker than rebooting, but when other people use my laptop they're somewhat liable to standby - which isn't good when the laptop is unplugged, as it usually is when someone else is using it. So I'd like to simply set the default to hibernate (but still be able to get Standby by pressing shift, which currently switches it to hibernate), so people are more liable to hibernate, and I save a step as well.
I figure there's probably some registry tweak in there that allows this - I've already taken advantage of registry tweaking to get rid of the log off button (yeah, I know, letting people use my laptop with complete admin rights - if I didn't know them decently well they wouldn't be using it at all, so no worries). I just don't know what the registry tweak would be.
The other easy option has already occured to me - simply set the computer to hibernate when the lid is closed. But I like to use the computer to play music with maximum battery life (i.e. closed screen and fans off), and having it not turn off at all is very handy when moving from room to room, so I'd rather not do that. Basically I'm trying to make my computer perfect for my uses while also making it friendly for other users.

I know you can change this for Vista easily not too sure about XP
What about a hibernate hotkey? most notebooks have one. -
There's no problem with having it on standby when unplugged, other than that it slowly drains the battery.
But... sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. -
You can't change the default (AFAIK), but you could just hold shift while you press enter.

There is a utility called MCE Standby tool, one of it's options is the default sleep level.

I've changed my power button to hibernate button. If I press it short, it hibernates.
When I close my lid nothing happens.
XP - How to switch standby/hibernate by default?
