Check out NewEgg.com for getting XP-Pro 64-bit. I wouldn't recommend XP 64-bit, since driver support is very minimal. Instead, you should consider Windows Vista 64-bit (or even Windows 7 64-bit if you can wait until October 22nd).

Yes, you can dual-boot Vista 64-bit along-side XP 32-bit. Install XP 32-bit first, and in the beginning have it partition the drive(s). Afterwards, install Vista and choose the 2nd partition that you made for it's installation. Windows takes care of the rest.

XP x64 is pointless. 64-bit Vista is excellent... easier to use, stabler, more resource efficient - and it's nice and easy to get drivers for it.

As was mentioned, XP 64-bit really isn't very supported, being sort of an afterthought. You'd do much better with a 64-bit version of Vista or Win7.

But FWIW, I got a copy of XP Pro 32-bit on eBay for $50, so I'd recommend looking around there. No problems.

    Cheers... :)

There's only a Professional version of XP x64 - no home edition. Newegg or Amazon are probably good places to look into buying it.

However, driver support isn't great. That's not to say you won't find drivers for XP x64 for your computer, but it might not be easy, and you might not be able to find all the drivers. If you are seriously considering running XP x64, I'd recommend trying the evaluation version from Microsoft first, and making sure you can get it up and running properly on your machine.

But XP x64 can be useful. I'm running it right now, and it has none of the compatibility issues I experienced with Vista/Windows 7 (either 32 or 64 bit) - most of the issues I had were due to Vista's security features. So it's not pointless - if you need more than 3.5 GB of RAM and need Vista-incompatible programs to run, it can be quite useful. But I was fortunate to find drivers for my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520), and it did take some Googling, not just visiting dell.com/support.

And it is (usually) possible to dual-boot _Vista x64 and XP x86 on the same machine. Some manufacturers make it difficult to install XP these days, but in general, it will work.

Im thinking i will just go with xp 32bit home edition to load on my laptop. I am running vista 64 bit right now and so far experience almost zero issues. I would like vista except all the negative vibe about vista (and boot times, and resource hog) then ill put linux on it too :)

Boot times improve over time because the system learns.

Resource hog is what ignorants call it... free RAM is wasted RAM. Vista frees it up for you when you need it. This isn't 1998 anymore. Resource management is key nowadays. Vista does it great. Saying XP does resource management would be jokeful.

09 is the year I graduated from high school (in may) and yes vista 64bit has slow boot up. xp is faster, windows 7 is suppossedly faster still and ubuntu is the fastest boot up I know of (mac is out of question hate them). I have Asus Express gate which is technically an OS (I believe) but does not do installs or file sharing, just basic media, web, and skype (explains why it boots up in under 30seconds)
