    Hi,

Does anybody know how to force Windows XP to show always the full text of a desktop icon?
I mean, suppose you have a desktop shortcut with a long name . When you select it the full name is displayed. However when you select another icon the name of the first one is no longer fully displayed, it gets shortened. I want to prevent this, I want that all the icons on my desktop has its name fully displayed all the time, no matter what I select. Tried googling around no luck.

    Thanks,
    ATG

How long are we talking and how many icons?

You can try messing with 'icon spacing(horizontal)' under advance appearance properties(desktop properties-appearance tab-advance appearance-icon spacing in the drop down box under item).

You might also have to mess with the size of the text for the icon and vertical spacing depending on your setup.

    Quick example...

    After messing with icon spacing:

What is looks like when clicked(doesn't get the whole name unless you make the spacing very large but it is still longer than the default options:

Depending on why you want to do this, you could try making different color icons or getting an icon pack for variety.
