I've been having a few issues with my computer lately. It seems like every time I go to browse through folders on my computer it gives me an error message that says explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. It does this almost every time that I go to browse through certain folders including My Music. Then there is the fact that sometimes the My Music folder icon does not appear. Sometimes other Windows programs do not have an icon either like calculator or other programs that were installed from the get-go. It just seems like there is a "broken" icon on it. I was wondering if anyone knew how to correct these problems.
thanks,
lucky

reformat. write down your cd key. if you don't know it, download magicaljellybean key finder to find it for you. then physically write it down.
then find your xp cd.
insert cd. reboot. -
Have you loaded any new programs? Did this happen after you loaded these programs. Try to delete these new programs and see if that fixes the problem. If not then see if you can reload a restore point in which this problem didn't occur.

If system restore wont work, backup any files you need and download all the up to date drivers you need for your hardware, then try a repair installation from your XP cd. Just one thing to be aware of with a repair installation you'll have to run all the windows updates again including the service packs as it replaces all system files.
If that doesn't work I'd go for the full format and reinstall. It's a bit painful but would be worth it in the long run. Sometimes the time spent trying to patch up a broken OS takes longer than even the full format and reinstall. Just don't forget to backup and download those drivers first!
