    Hello,
today arrived my new laptop and I´m so happy. Only one thingbothers me- The Windows Xp Home is with german default language and I can´´t change it to english.
Please tell me what to do...I tried to change the options in the regional language and settings window, but it doesn´t work.
A friend of mine offered me, to install illegal windows xp pro with english language...but I suppose this isn`t a good idea, or?
    PLS, help me.

You might be able to borrow someone's English Windows CD and use your CD Key with it. I don't know for sure if that would work, maybe someone else here knows.

This is 1 of the idiot thing that microsoft did, anyway, if ur version is truly german only version, the chance of it working with the english one is very slim, or near to nothing. But if ur lucky enough to get a Windows XP Pro multilanguage version, it wouldnt be any problem to change it within the system itself.

If you have German XP Home, your XP key will not work with the English version. Changing regional settings will not change the language of the interface, but rather only the preferred language for third party applications.

What you need is an MUI pack with English (MUI=multilingual user interface)

I don't think you can buy it through retail channels though.

Apart from that you would need to install English version of XP with its own CD key.

The MUI would not solve timstanev's problem. Here is a quote from Microsoft's MUI FAQ: "MUI is not supported on consumer versions of Windows such as Windows 9x, Windows Me, and Windows XP Home Edition." timstanev, you have to install an English version of Windows.

your CD key will 99% likely not work (but you won't find out until you have trashed your OS).

And if you install using your roommates CD key... Well... It's illegal and you *might* have problems Windows activation.

Not only will you screw up your XP activation you will then ruin the key that your friend has, making his copy kaput.
