Does anybody knows if there's a patch or something I can add to XP Pro to have all the new Media Center features in it??

I really don't want to install Media Center Edition, as there are lots of security and network features that XP Pro has, and Media Center not.

    Thanks!

Oh really? Other than joining domains (which can be fixed pretty easily), I know of none.

There's a thread here that explains how to get MCE running on 2K3, I wouldn't be surprised if it could be adapted to work for XP:SP2.

MCE is basically XP pro minus the domain function but adds the entertainment options. Assuming you don't need the domain function, install MCE.

Other than that I don't know of any programs that will add the funcitons of MCE to XP Pro.

One downfall to that process is that you need BOTH the MCE 2005 disks and the Windows XP disk...not too cost effective.

It would be nice if this was a separate program that could be purchased SEPARATE from the operating system.

Very true, however there are a number of alternatives that you can purchase/acquire for free. BeyondTV and MythTV are two viable options (the first is commercial, the second is free).

Actually what I really want is to remote control the notebook... is it possible without MCE and without a TV turner card?

I just want to play my dvds and music from a remote control

Certainly. You can pick up an ATI Remote Wonder on eBay for el cheapo, then configure it to work with whatever software you're using.

I 2nd his statement. By making a copy of the registry changing an entry and copying it back you can allow it to change domains. I'm 99% sure you can't give MCE any other features of Pro.

As for this guide, I'm going to have to try this out when I have some free time at work in the next few days.
