    XP Pro OEM

    since I have an XP Pro OEM CD, is it possible to upgrade my laptop having XP Home without formatting the HD? does the XP Pro OEM needs a clean install?

    im sorry because i haven't tried it before... i use to upgrade a Home Edition with an XP Pro Upgrade CD.

    yes you can as long as you have an unactivated license

    I wouldnt reocmend it as a reformatt usually is needed (and not the quick kind)

    You can do it, but it would be better to do a format (not a quick format) to wipe the MFT (Master File Table) and the Partition Tables. I have upgraded from a CD before and noticed not only that the system was slower, but that the computer acted funny.
