Could someone help me out here?

My notebook doesn't seem to like to be restarted. Every single time I restarted it, it will go up to the Windows XP loading screen, then the blue bar will freeze. I wait for fifteen minutes and nothing will happen. Usually, I was forced to pull the power plug, replug it, then press the power button on my notebook do get back to Windows.

Anyone here has any idea on what's causing this problem?

What laptop do you have? When did this start (has always done this, started after xxx program was installed, etc)? What version of XP are you running? Can you boot into safe mode?

    Thanks for the reply.

I have an Asus S96J. I'm running XP Pro SP2 with all the latest updates. As the laptop is a little less than a week old, there's a ton of software I just recently installed, so I don't know which one might be the culprit.

I can boot into safe mode and into Windows as well, just that in order to do so, I have to shut down the computer, wait, then push the power button to start it back up. Using the 'Restart' buttong on the 'Turn Off Computer' menu won't work.

Edit: Hmm, could it be caused by deleting iwpdgina.dll? That dll file was forcing me to log on only through the classic mode, and the only way to log on with the xp look was to delete it.

That might be what's causing your problem. You should never delete essential Windows dll files. You change the logon process in the User Accounts control panel applet, or you can use the group policy editor to control how users log on and off, or by applying a registry hack.

I just did a clean reinstallation of Windows XP and the problem didn't go away, so I don't think it has anything to do with the dll file.
