Hi all,
my dad asked me to change the profile name of his laptop for him. He works in the university and his laptop is preconfigured by its IT department. I did the following:
- I changed the account name in Control Panel
- I found the SID of his current profile.
- I created a new temporary account, logged into that, and renamed the original profile folder under C:\Documents and Settings
- I then changed the registry path in ProfileImagePath
Here is the strange thing: according to instructions I found online, the steps above should have done it. However, when I look under User Profile in Systems, I still see the old profile name. It also shows up when I lock the computer. I think the original account may have been the default account that came with the computer, but apparently I can't copy the profile to a new one either, because it's grayed out. I think what I did above may be incomplete, so I was hoping someone here might know.
TIA

The smarter way to do it is to just create a new profile and use Copy To... and then delete the original (once you verify everything else).

That's what I'm saying... I can't select the current profile to copy it to the new one, because the old one is grayed out and there is no way that I can select it. Maybe it's because it's too big already... I don't know... wild guess... it is over 1 GB. It almost seems as though different settings have been applied to that profile, as I can copy and rename newly created profiles just fine.
