    Ok,

In my laptop setup i have a SSD drive thats 32 GB for the C drive which is for programs and windows.

the 2nd drive is a 320 GB harddrive for files e.t.c

On SP2 when i received files on msn i would click the link it gave and they just opened. Since SP3 was installed it no longer does that and i have to find the files manually.

Also, it takes almost 4 times as long to open msn its self now.

And sort of offtopic from this post when i used to press the volume up/ down/ mute buttons on my laptop an indicator used to come up showing what % the volume was on e.t.c - the same with screen brightess. this doesnt happen any more on sp3.

Reinstall your drivers to get the Volume bar back.

Welcome to the slow SSD drives.

Cheap MLC SSD drives have (or had) a poor controller chip that gave them very fast sequential write but when small blocks were written randomly they would lock up and take upwards of a second to respond to each request giving them very poor throughput. They nicely left this out of the reviews and system specs that used sequential benchmarks for their analysis.

If you have moved your page file and temp file onto the HDD then there is not much more you can do to increase its speed.

No, the system is very fast, its since SP3 was installed that msn took a while to load up.

And I'm unsure which drivers are needed to make the volume and screen brigthness bars come back. p.s. how do i install the 8.5 patch? -- and i found out that it only doesnt open image files that im sent, if i click open on a music file or somthing that works fine.

Download CCleaner, use the application cleanup feature to clear the old WLM cache.

Cleaner -> Applications -> Internet -> Windows Live Messenger

Make sure the checkbox is checked, it should be by default.
