I mean cmon, give me a break! I just formatted and installed a clean installation of XP Pro SP3 and office 2007, then I updated Office 2007 to SP1 and manually installed Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7 and I still have 251 MB of updates to install? ? MS? We need an SP2 for Office ASAP to minize the updates to be downloaded and seriously need to release SP4 for XP! :( SO SAD

you didn't get what I just said. I said i installed XP from a disc which comes preinstalled with SP3. But even after SP3 is installed I had 250 MB to go! and that was with Office 2007 SP1 installed.

What is the point of complaining? It clearly states on the microsoft website what you are downloading. From the file size, it could have been, Framework 3.5 SP1. What are you on about? Sp3 will not contain everything from the future.

Like Wishmaker said, it could be the .NET framework (versions 1.5, 2, 3, and 3.5 - if you need all the versions than that's well over 100 MB alone). It could also be drivers for your video card/webcam/wireless card/what have you. For everything you need to total 251 MB doesn't surprise me a whole lot. Perhaps it would seem unreasonable if I knew what all it was.

It would be nice if Microsoft released a service pack at the end of extended support for an OS with all the updates they ever released for it - then if you were installing Windows 98, you'd just be able to install one service pack and be done with patching. That wouldn't affect XP until 2014, but by then, there probably will be enough random patches that an SP4 would be really nice. I doubt it'll happen, though - if enough people are still downgrading to XP in 2014 for there to be high demand for a cumulative SP4, then Microsoft will have some pretty big problems.

It would be nice but how can you predict the bugs in advance? Take for example, IE Zero Day. Would you want the update on the spot or a cumulative one at the end of the trimester?

If I install .Net framework 3.5, can I delete all the others in add/remove?

No. Some apps will require the old ones.

OK. Everything I have as of now seems to be working fine with NF 2, guess I'll not download 3.5

    Thanks.
