Tell me why I would download a supposed MS service pack from some random website?
Especially since MS hasn't even confirmed the contents of said service pack?
All I see on that website is a collection of ALREADY EXISTING hotfixes. All of which can be downloaded from MS without having to sign up for some random forums. -
download or not, it is ur prerogatory. The link provides the description of current fixes/patches that m$ is working on - purely info!

Will XP SP3 have any new featuers? SP2 added the firewall and a few other things. Is SP3 all bug fixes or are we getting something new?
-
Looks like purely bugfixes to me.
-
It is not a description of anything.
It's a collection of hotfixes that have been released within the last year.
There is NOTHING on that site or in that download that has anything to do with XP service pack 3. -

I heard SP3 is mostly just a cummalitive update with all the prior critical updates and stuff rolled up into 1.

wave - u r in germany, u can get more info regarding XP SP3 than myself in usa. All official/unofficial links I come across seem all starting from the european sites.
what i heard so far is a mix bag of fixes and improvement, with the annoucement date so far is 2008, but i m not holding my breath. m$ itself has warned that inofficial download can be hazardous to ur health. Still i m willing to go thru the list and "tried" certain patch(es) in my not.so.in.a.stable.state of mind

From what I have heard most likely just bug fixes, I do not think they want to improve XP anymore considering Vista is already out.
-
May end up they drop SP3 again *sigh*.

Yeah they may toss a thing or two in there but thats what its about. The OS has way too many updates to download and install for a new user so they need to get them into the retial version, thats the goal of SP3, and its a good thing.
-
As of right now, there are about 100 major updates and quite a few minor ones since SP2. And on top of that, numerous hotfixes that are still undergoing testing before they are 're-released' as 'official' updates. Even if SP3 is nothing more than bug fixes, it is welcome as I'm tired of downloading all that over the course of 3-4 LONG updates after an OS re-install.
-
Can always slipstream the updates onto a XP install cd yourself. Its a bit of work but I got 4-5 computers running XP so its worth it to invest the time once.
-
I'm working to make a backup that even has all my programs and files, and all activated.
But still, an SP3 finalized patch would be welcome!
