How do i stop xp from opening a folder at start-up, my laptop has started doing this all of sudden?
-
open your windows xp in safe mode then... Check
your startup folder (Start Menu > programs >...)
If there is any suspicious program...
2nd, open msconfig.exe, and check if there's any program
opening the folder (startup tab).
Third, open the registry goto "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon"
Some viruses invades your computer by using this registry...
If you're a beginner, just boot at safe mode and scan your pc
via any anti-virus. I normally scan my pc using the old mcafee DOS engine
manually using updated DAT files. but you can do it using any anti-virus
such as AVG. my windows vista machine, using AVG+Vista is great. -
Which folder is it opening? If it is the root folder (C:/) then chances are it's this bug:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q228502
Otherwise, check if under Start>All Programs>Startup has a shortcut to the folder that's opening.
It's quite unlikely that it is a virus.
