I have a computer with XP pro. It fails to recognize any USB hardware I plug - flash drives or other hardware.

    Any fix for that?

I have no idea. It's a computer that was given to me as is: no OS discs.

well, try to completely reinstall the chipset and other low-level drivers as suggested.

I've seen a few times where people have inadvertently turned off the onboard USB controller in the BIOS. I would check that as well.

If you're using Windows XP SP0 or SP1 I would also update to at least SP2, as pre-SP2 could have problems with USB devices not working if drivers were not properly installed (as newsposter is suggesting). After SP2 a basic driver will be guaranteed to be built in.

Oh! I forgot that this is a notebook forum. The computer is a desktop.

I guess I should find it under device manager, right?

Well all the advice given so far is still applicable to you. The model of the system would be right on the system if it's a prebuilt computer, if it's a custom built system you'll need to go to the motherboard manufacturer, or chipset manufacturer to get the drivers. You should probably post this topic over at desktopreview.com though, NBR's partner site. I don't really post there often but if you post a link here (before the topic gets closed) or PM me the new topic I'd still be glad to help.
