    Hi,

With any luck, Monday I shall be receiving my laptop which is running Vista (Business).

I have an XP based laptop I need to transfer files from and instead of doing the usual of using an external media I thought I would try some networking (mistake).

I went right ahead and bought a crossover (CAT5) cable from eBay which should also arrive Monday but now have a problem.

How can I set up a situation where I can easily transfer files from the XP system to the Vista one via the crossover cable? I have done a lot of googling and it all seems sketchy.

    Thank you.

Other than windows file sharing, and if you dont know what you are doing, not recommended. But I have an idea: what do you currently use to back up your data? An external hard drive is best for backing up data and also gives the ease of transferring files without security risks of windows filesharing. GL

Vista has a utility built in which will walk you through the process. It includes a small app you run on the XP machine to facilitate the transfer.

The XP application will only run on U.S English versions of XP, unfortunately Microsoft have deemed it prudent to prevent the English english speakers from using it.

I usually just stick something on my pen drive or if it's large onto my iPod...but it's a paint, was looking for something to make things a little easier :)
