I used to turn on my laptop (*Dell) and the moment i connected the lan cable, my comp would auto detect it, and I would be online. After doing an auto update, my lan will not auto connect. I have to reboot WITH the lan cable connected for it to work. Any ideas?

Try renewing your IP in the CMD prompt _ipconfig) if that happens again and see if that works.

When I got my first Dell I connected the cable and it wouldn't work. I renewed IP and it worked great.

How do I get the adapter name for the ipconfig/renew command?

I had a similar issue with XP. At a point it would not connect to my wireless network unless I ran ipconfig /renew first. Could this be a similar issue? BTW, the same Ip would be shown before and after renewing the IP.
