    Hey everyone,

Does anybody have a concrete solution to fixing the problems of the screen staying on when the lid of the lcd display is closed? Through searching I found some solutions but nothing concrete:

Using nircmd to close the lcd by creating a shortcut:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=112661&highlight=screen+stays+on+when+lid+closed

Checking the magnet and other small apps:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=59603&highlight=inspiron+lid

It seems it sporadically happens across a range of laptops. I saw a mod post that reformatting actually fixed the issue, in some cases flashing the bios. Just curious if someone has a real solution. I also saw someone post that installing windows xp hotfix kb917332 would solve the issue but it did not.

I know it’s not mechanical since the display would turn off when I closed the lid in Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked your power options? Control panel, power options, advanced, and the drop down menu- when lid is closed.

I have it set to do nothing, the only other option is standby.

take a look and see if u have any gpu related utilities running (ati2xx.exe per example on some systems) and zap them. One does not need these utilities unless one is constantly playing with the display properties

    cheers ...

Ah, I'm not quite sure, but if you had it set to do nothing, that's what's it's doing, nothing. Besides stand by, you can also enabled hiberate on the tabs menu.

If you want the lid closed and still want the notebook running for instance if you were listening to music then you could try setting the power management to turn off the LCD after say 5mins that way when the lid is closed after 5mins the LCD would go off without the system hibernating or going into standby.

However if you want it to standby(or other power down state) then do just as hiker said and set it to that in power management. I also agree with hiker in saying that you currently have the setting on do nothing so it will do nothing as in the LCD will not turn off and continue running when you close the lid.

Yeah it's supposed to turn off when you close the lid but for some reason the OS messes up at some point and doesn't close the lid.

It's a known problem for the few that experience it but I have never seen a real solution posted.

The only GPU related processes I believe are the nvc32 from nvidia. I attached it just in case anyone can make any sense of it.

jb1007 were you overclocking before this happened?

I discovered that mine didn't work because the "ATI Hotkey Poller" service was not running on my system. For some reason it had been disabled when I was infected with w32.beagle.hi which is a beast to remove.

    Hope it helps some.
