    Hey guys

just brought the xbox 360 controller for windows in a hope that acouple of games i just brought will be played without using keyboard......namely CoD4 and CoD WaW but it seems that this games dont support the controller feature.......even though they are widows games....

my question is......is there a way to set up the controller manually in say windows that will allow it to be programed so that when playing CoD it automatically plays using the controller........hmmm basically im trying to ask if there is a way to program in the forward, left, right, shoot etc so when running the game it thinks im using the keyboard but am infact using the controller?

thanks guys and sorry if this sounds confusing, i know what i mean but can get the question out right lol

    A simple google revealed this.

I assume you have a wired one, since I don't believe it is possible to get the wireless one to work at all.

from what i've seen all you have to do is either buy a wireless controller, or an adapter so you can use your wireless 360 controller on your pc.

i just brought this one spacifically because it is designed to be used on either the pc or xbox 360 i dont own a xbox360 but when choosing a controller to use with the notebook i really liked the build and feel of this one......as a bonus it was made buy microsoft to be used with windows and also come with a 3yr warranty

so i find it strange that games made for windows use dont support this controller and especially games like CoD, anyway ill keep trying to download the above provided installer fix and let you know how i get on.
    Thanks

Everything I have read states that the wireless one doesn't work even with an adapter. Correct windows is meant to already contain the 360 controller drivers but apparently in this case they aren't working so I figured I would offer the alternative ones. Also his issue may be the 64bit OS, I know there are special instructions for installing the drivers with 64bit.

If you bought the controller after you installed your games I think what you need to do is reinstall your games so that it will recognize it.

I had this problem with Burnout Paradise where I installed the game then bought the controller to play it with but it wasn't being recognized. I reinstalled the game and everything worked perfectly.

BTW, if you're running Vista you don't even need to install the drivers or any other software. It works perfectly as a plug and play device.

yeap mate ill try reinstalling the games if the above provided links dont work, and exactly right with the vista drivers call, when i plug the xbox controller into the pc usb port it says that the drivers have been successfully installed but when i run games i cant find an option to use controller rather than keyboard and mouse.....namely the 2 games ive tryed it on CoD4 and CoD WaW, the strange thing is on the boxes of the games it says they are compatible with microsoft controllers.

anyway as soon am i can ill install the modder and see if that makes a difference.
Thx alot guys for the patience.

    Xpadder, GlovePie, Pinnicle Game Profiler

All 3 of those can map a game pad to have functions not normally available so that they can be used in games.

I have never heard this issue, a game should have a controller option if it supports it regardless of the presence of the controller during install. The only thing similar I can think of is some games will not let you use a controller if it is not plugged in when you actually start the game.
