I have a dell inspiron with xp home installed and an xp oem disc. i recently bought an asus z70va and installed xp home from the dell disc, itworks fine, but i cant activate it. Is there a way to transfer the activation? Or can i just uninstall windows on the dell and then be able to use the code on the asus? Please help out!

If it is an OEM version of XP it is unlikely you can transfer it.

The manufacture-branded XP OEM discs will only work with the respective PCs. The setup is modified to do a BIOS check, which would easily determine if, for example, a DELL OEM XP disc is being installed on a DELL computer or not.

In addition, new OEM versions of XP keys (post-2002 or so) are designed so they CANNOT be activated by end-users. This policy was implemented by Microsoft after people used OEM keys found on outside stickers to activate Windows XP illegally.

Your only option is to purchase a retail license or a non-branded OEM license.

    Hope that helps!
