Is there any advantage to the media center? Any cons of it compared to home?

apparently media center is actually windows media pro with a few more pieces of software that make it media center. so basically, any real pros to getting Media Center are for its Pro features, mainly networking ability. i know the college i'm going to says that they only officially support windows xp pro, but MCE works because it's just pro slightly modified. besides the connectivity, i also opted for Media Center because it allows me to finally stream videos from my laptop to my xbox 360, which requires a media center for that feature.

as far as the actual media center enhancements, they're nice, but nothing special, just a snazzy show. you can still do everything (dvd's, slideshows, music, etc.) just as well, if not better, using xp home and windows media player or whatever else you choose. i have yet to actually use media center to do anything media related.

    hope that helps

The above sums it up pretty nicely. It's not exactly Pro as it is missing some features that 99% of the world would never use anyways. I don't even like XP Home. I recommend Pro (or MCE) to anyone over Home.

oic, because the s96j and the z96j, and most asus notebooks only offer home or pro...and i owuld only go for home between the 2.

So the media center edition, only benefit is the networking ability?

Sorry..this should go in the software forum.

well...when you start up your computer you'll immediately be able to play music, video, stream files, look at pictures, eatch TV and so on.

    that's the advantge of MCE.

Is there any downside to Win MCE other than the extra price? How much HD space does it eat?
