The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. My log-on page in XP Home states "1 unread email message" beside my profile ....but I don't have any unread messages in my inbox or trash.

    I tried re-booting, but it's still there.

Anyone have this problem before and know of a fix?

Weird...I was going to suggest checking the trash, but you did that...no idea.

Download PowerToys and run TweakUI. Under the Login section, there is an option to turn it off

    or

    >Got to Start
    >then Run
    >and type regedit
    >and press OK
    >Look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    >Expand it (either double click it or the + beside it)
    >Expand untill you arrived in
    >HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUnreadMail
    >click on the folder with foldername= your email address
    >click on MessageCount
    >In your case the value is <7>
    >Change the value to <0>
    >Click OK
    >Done!

    Accendo,
Mine does the same thing, but it goes away after a couple days?!?! If you don't do what Overdrive26 says, next time you get mail just be sure to open all the mail and not leave one unread before you log-off.

THe message went away on its own...disappeared this morning. Thanks for the tips, though. I'll save your instructions, Overdrive, in case it becomes a recurring problem. [ :)]
