Your thoughts on "jv16 PowerTools 2011"

On the Kaspersky Lab Forums, they recommend to use jv16 PowerTools 2011 to clean your system after you have uninstalled an Antivirus and want to install Kaspersky's products.
Since this advice is coming from a reputed company, do you think that jv16 PowerTools 2011 is actually good, doesn't harm the system and worth the 30 bucks?

I am not sure very many here will recommend its use, If you do use it I would suggest a full image of your machine before using it.
If you just need a one time reg cleaner/uninstaller I would recommend the trial of Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily
It saved me big time when I had a java issue

 

Software Industry Report is not a reputable source; it's been known to falsely promote useless shareware. I would avoid jv16 PowerTools 2011 and use Revo Uninstaller + CCleaner instead.

What happens in this case....

I format my computer, install the Revo Uninstaller, I know that it takes a snapshot of the registry / hard disk state before installing a program......so let's say I install programs....

MS Office ....snapshot taken
Kaspersky Internet Security.....snapshot taken
Java 32 bit and 64 bit....snapshot taken....
Firefox....snapshot taken...
etc....snapshot...
etc...snapshot

now... if I use Revo unninstaller to uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security (let's say there was a new version) wouldn't that restore the registry to the point before I have installed Kaspersky Internet security? so wouldn't that affect the programs that I installed AFTER Kaspersky since an earlier registry was restored? Someone please explain to me how it does the magic as sometimes I think it doesn't makes sense but please correct me if I'm wrong

PS: I just checked Revo's site and it is quite expensive I see, is there a good free alternative or is it worth teh cash?

Well... you could've stuck with the free version of Revo Uninstaller; the only downside really is that it doesn't support 64-bit programs.

 

I couldn't have then, I have a 64 bit Windows 7 and only use 64 bit programs

Thanks for the recommendation bro. I was looking for something to buy as I love buying stuff but was out of ideas. I wanted a system utility that was useful and this seems to be it...

would you please answer my question above about how it works with regards to the order of installation programs when you uninstall an earlier program?

Does it just remove the traces of that program and not actually restore the entire registration to the point before which would obviously break the registry entries of the programs that were installed after...?

 

Sad to say, there are still a lot of 32 bit programs. Take a look in Windows Explorer. You'll find a 'Program Files' and a 'Program Files (x86)' directory. Everything in the x86 folder is 32 bit.

How can I have my uninstaller work with the above?

 

Kaspersky666, I have only used Revo a few times (free version). I chose java from the list of many installed programs, and it only removed all Java entries (in registry and program folder) it did not touch any other programs.
I have never used the snapshot feature...

 

Interesting, how are you liking Revo Uninstaller? I'm considering picking it up myself.

Can you get it to auto clean junk with daily/weekly scans?

 

Well I usually format my laptop, install windows, configure my personal folders (docs, vids, etc.), perform all windows updates, create a backup image using Acronis True Image

Then I install all the drivers, then create a TrueImage

Then I install Office then create a TrueImage

Then Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator & Audition then True Image


THEN I install my antivirus, and other programs, so this way, I can easily go back to any restore point. Lets see they released a new service pack for Office, so i restore back to the point before my Office installation, that way I have the chance to reinstall it again with the latest service pack without messing with my registry.

\But now that I have Revo Uninstaller, I am gonna go back to my first Image, install Revo Uninstaller, and start all over again.

I will give you my impressions soon as I didn't install the program yet but I read good reviews about it.

Bear in mind that one negative thing I read in the review is that when cleaning the junk files, Revo Uninstaller doesn't inform you that your browser is running and thus cannot clean those temp browser files, it only says its finished and the temp browser files are still there. Not a big deal for me because I didn't buy the program to clean my junk, I bought it for the uninstaller.

So ill stick to using CCleaner I guess
