Hey i was just wondering what you all use for chatting. I used to use trillion, for aim, msn and all that.. but with my new notebook i do not have a program yet.. and i would like to see whats all availible out there.

Gaim is a great alternative. It is open source and supports AIM, MSN, ICQ, and a whole host of others. http://gaim.sourceforge.net/about.php
-
multi chat clients
trillian, gaim and miranda-im are all pretty good -
+1 for gaim.

Gaim or Miranda.

I'm not a big fan of Miranda, but Gaim and Trillian are both great programs. I prefer Trillian (because of its slightly less sucky IRC support, and awesome smilies), but still use Gaim at work and school.

Miranda takes quite a bit of tweaking to get it up to par on functionality, but the potential is there, if you don't mind spending some time on it. It's also very light, resource-wise. Kinda like the foobar of IM, heh.
Gaim is great as well. -
+1 for Miranda and GAIM.

I use trillian on Windows, and Adium on OS X.
a good Chat program (aim, etc...)
