Is it possible to install from vista i.e popping the dvd in while in vista and installing from there?

Does Skype, Office 2007, Live Messenger, VLC and itunes all work with 7 RC?

Yes, it's possible to perform an upgrade install from Vista-migrating everything over to W7, but as a rule it's best to install Windows cleanly by reformatting the drive. It gets rid of all of the old cruft and you get a better experience. Odd things have happened when people performed upgrades instead of clean installs of Windows. :)

All of those programs except for maybe iTunes (I don't use iTunes) work with Windows 7 RC.

NIS 2009 won't work. There is pre-release Windows 7 version, but that's only active for 14 days. I think there will be a longer lasting version soon.

Are they going to send out an update for NIS 09 or is it an entire NEW version of NIS 09?

I don't know what the final product will look like, but I had to uninstall NIS, then install the 7 version from norton.com. But it looks exactly like NIS 09 and functions like it too, save he huge Pre-release watermark.

I read on norton.com that there's going to be a compatibility update through LiveUpdate for the 2009 products.

There will be an automatic update for NIS09 that updates the client software to be compatible with Windows 7. Right now though I am on the Kaspersky Beta.

Just make sure your hardware is working OK. I have a desktop from Lenovo which works great. NO problems. But my HP DV5 laptop is having a lot of problems. I am betting it is related to wonky chipset drivers that worked fine on the 7000 beta but something changed in rc1 that made them funky.
