i just accidently deleted at least 8-9 Gb of songs off of my comp. i went to 'control panel', 'add or remove programs' and deleted this divx software that i rarely used and now my songs are gone!!!
i tried to do a system restore tried 5 times. it keeps saying the system cannot restore to this date, no changes have been made to your computer
my hd is partitioned into 2 parts, a C drive and a D drive (acer TM4000LCi). all the regular stuff was stored on C drive. my music, movies, itunes was stored on D drive. when i deleted the divx file, the file only read it was 175mb, i had at least 12GB worth of songs and movies. i don't see how it did it. my music was saved under ' my computer' 'acerdata(d)' and stored in 'new folder'. divx had nothin to f'n do with it!!!!!!!!
downloaded a program called recurva, and it seems like i got back most of my songs, but they won't play
when i deleted this damn divx stuff, all my songs were gone, but the 'new folder' was still there. it was just empty. in fact, my whole D drive was empty.
please help me get them back. its 2.5 years worth of songs. please i'm desperate

Your files are most likely still on your hard disk. Try not to do anything on the computer as any file creations will overwrite the sectors that these deleted files are occupying until all traces are gone.
Now, while you are reminding everyone and hopefully yourself the importance of backups, I'd say the best way to do this for an inexperienced user is to take it to an IT shop. Programs, especially the free ones, only work to certain degrees and are often not something to rely on. -
get urself a commercial version of recovering deleted files and *use the trial period period* before commit to buy
cheers ... -
Try this, GetDataBack:
http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm
There is a trial, but I'm not too sure if its "limited"
http://www.runtime.org/gdbnt.zip
I have used it twice to recover 2 html files for web sites I was working on that got accidentally deleted. -
do you use windows vista business? you can recover them if you do. else there are file recovery programs. your best bet is to stop trying to do system restores. each time you do it, you will lower your chances of getting files back...not a smart move on your part, and system restore only restores your system files, not personal ones...
here is another program to help get them back. http://www.smartundelete.com/ -
Another excellent data restoration is called, what else, restoration, and best of all, it's free. I've used it a couple of times and I wouldn't trust anything else.

Google a program called "Recuva." Same people that make CCleaner. Good stuff.
Oh yeah, STOP USING THE COMPUTER UNLESS IT'S NECESSARY TO DO SO. The more you use it, the higher the chances of the songs being gone for good.
notyou, I've used that one before - I even took mine into Resource Hacker and customized the interface. I still like Recuva better. -
i tried smart undelete also, didn't work like recuva ( recuva is the only program that found my songs, its just the songs won't play) -

Re-rip the CDs.
-
-
uh oh...i think i know whats going on here
you do mean you have all the origional cd's but it would take WAY to long to rerip them so that is not an option, right? -
http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
try that link
it's a very powerful software
you're gonna think its a 'joke'. or more appropriately a 'miracle'
first try the 'fast search option' and make sure you "only tick mp3's" since thats what you are specifically looking for. it provides for a faster search -

anybody else?

I just recently went through a similar issue. GetDataBack was the only one that saved my arse. Problem is that they sell it as an NTFS version and FAT32 version. You have to buy it if you really want any use out of it though. But it saved me GB's of data.

I hate when people have to throw in these comments at times like these. Unless you have solid evidence, leave slandering comments to yourself.
