Do you mean the shortcuts to those programs?
If so, open My Computer and right-click on any drive. Select Properties from the menu, and click on the Tools tab. If you do not see Defragment and Error Checking in the tools tab, then go to the Programs and Features menu on the Control Panel and select Turn Windows Features on or off to restore them. -
I am guessing that you were in your Program\Accessories\System Tools folder and deleted or more likely accidently moved the shortcuts for those files elsewhere. You didn't mention what OS you are using. The original files will be in your Windows\System32 folder if that is the case. Let me know what OS you are using and I will tell you the file names. You can create new shortcuts and paste them into your System Tools folder.

Find the Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter files below, right click on each of them and Send To Desktop (Create Shortcut) for each of the two files.
You can type the file name in the Search area after clicking on the start globe.
Disk Cleanup File
C:\Windows\System32\ cleanmgr.exe
Disk Defragmenter (it will be one or the other of the files below, not both)
C:\Windows\System32\dfrg.msc - Windows XP
C:\Windows\System32\ dfrgui.exe - Windows 7 (and most likely Vista)
After you have the shortcuts on your desktop, navigate to the System Tools folder on your C: Drive: C:\ProgramData>Microsoft>Windows>Start Menu>Programs>Accessories>System Tools
Right click on each of the shortcuts, one at a time, select Cut, and then Paste the shortcut into the System Tools folder. You should now have your shortcuts back.
There are many ways to perform what I outlined above. I just gave you one example of how you can simply do it. -
Hi Deeastman, Yesterday I tried to copy shortcut for disk defragment and disk cleanup on my laptop. but what i did was accidentally deleted those shortcuts into recycle bin then i emptied the bin. i tried to find it but there was nothing on my laptop.
i just tried to do ur explanation but I couldnt copy from system 32 to my desktop.
Thank you. -
Why couldn't you create a shortcut on your desktop per my instructions? What happens? The information you provided doesn't allow for further help.
Zeeby, the bottom line is this: You need to create a shortcut for each of the two files identified in my post above that you deleted the shortcuts for. Those new shortcuts need to be copied/moved into the System Tools folder that I gave you the full path for in that same post. I suggest you seek help from someone you know who is more computer knowledgeable to assist you in this task. -
*IF* I'm reading right,
zeeby tried to make short cuts on his laptop desktop. He unfortunately put the actual C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr.exe and C:\Windows\System32\dfrg.msc into the recycle bin, and then, for some reason, emptied it.
If I'm not reading right, then zeeby doesn't natively speak English, and I'm confused as everyone else. -
If you had deleted the actual disk cleanup and disk defrag utilities from the System32 directory, you could get them from a Vista install DVD, or copy them from another Vista system.
accidently delete
