I have been trying to run CHKDSK, but in the DOS window, when I type in the CHKDSK command, I receive a message stating I need adminstrator privileges and that the command needs to run on an "elevated" level, which I understand is administrator level. However, when I access my account in the control panel, it appears with "administrator" under my name, which I understand means my account is already administrator level. I am the only user of this pc.
Am I missing one or more things here? What else do I need to do to communicate to the DOS pc that I am the administrator.
Thanks for reading and any suggestions.

Try command prompt with "run as administrator"
-
In All Programs > Accessories right-click Command Prompt and left-click on Run as administrator. Now you should have a Command Prompt with Admin rights open.
-
Or hold down Ctrl + Shift while clicking the executable. (Keyboard ShortCut)

and as another question, why do you want/need to run the character-mode chkdsk?
